Work on the upcoming GNOME 3.24 desktop environment continues, and today, Javier Jardón informed us via an email announcement about the availability of the fourth development release before GNOME 3.24 hits Beta.

According to the developers, probably the most important feature implemented in the GNOME 3.23.4 snapshot is the embodiment of a pre-release version of GTK+ 4, the next-generation GTK+ GUI (Graphical User Interface) toolkit that it's being used by default for all the GNOME apps, as well as the rest of its components.

GNOME 3.23.4 includes various updated components, with bug fixes and other improvements, and we can't help but notice that support for Nextcloud accounts has been implemented in the GNOME Online Accounts by developer Debarshi Ray, who is also maintaining the well-known GNOME Photos and GNOME Documents apps.

Nextcloud support is now available for public testing

As you might be aware, Nextcloud was forked last year from ownCloud, and it's currently very popular among those who look to integrate an open-source, enterprise-ready file sync and share system with collaborative support on their infrastructures, be it a small office or a larger organization.

If you're using a GNU/Linux distribution built around the GNOME desktop environment, such as Fedora Workstation, or any other operating system that's using the latest GNOME Stack, you should know that starting with the GNOME 3.24 Stack, you'll be able to connect your Nextcloud account, allowing you to instantly access your files.

As mentioned before, this has already been integrated into the GNOME Online Accounts package as part of today's GNOME 3.23.4 development release, which you can compile on your favorite distro by using the jhbuild modulesets at https://developer.gnome.org/jhbuild/ and https://download.gnome.org/teams/releng/3.23.4/.

If your favorite GNU/Linux distribution is also providing development versions of the GNOME Stack, you can also install GNOME 3.23.4 from those repositories, otherwise you should wait for GNOME 3.24 to hit the streets on March 22, 2017, like the rest of us. The first Beta of the GNOME 3.24 desktop is expected to land shortly after Valentine's Day.
