These days, the GNOME Project developers are working hard to release the third development snapshot towards the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment, GNOME 3.21.3, which should be out later today or by the end of the week.

As we are always monitoring the development cycle of the next major GNOME desktop release, we can tell you a bit about what's coming in some of the core components and apps of the project. Yesterday, we informed you about some of the improvements introduced in the Epiphany, Orca, and Shotwell applications.

But today we want to tell you a little bit about some of the latest fixes and new features coming to the GNOME Online Accounts component, which is in charge of handling users' online accounts. It offers providers many well-known online services, including Facebook, Pocket, Google, ownCloud, Flickr, and Last.fm.

What's new in GNOME Online Accounts 3.21.3

GNOME Online Accounts 3.21.3 is now available for public testing, and it improves support for Last.fm accounts, fixes various issues around the support for Telepathy and Kerberos accounts in the sense they will no longer be removed or expire when the GNOME Online Accounts daemon is stopped.

Another interesting change that has landed in this development release of GNOME Online Accounts is that temporary accounts will no longer be stored in the accounts.conf configuration file, nor will the keyring. Moreover, it looks like GNOME Online Accounts was finally ported to GTask from GSimpleAsyncResult.

A few usability improvements have also been implemented for the IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) and SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) providers, and GNOME Online Accounts will now skip the "EnsureCredentials" option when the respective account has been disabled.

Last but not least, there are also the usually updated translations, this time for languages like Catalan, Occitan, Spanish, Indonesian, Turkish, German, Portuguese, and Portuguese (Brazilian). Download the GNOME Online Accounts 3.21.3 sources right now via our website and take it for a test drive.
