GNOME Project's Frederic Peters informs us a few minutes ago about the availability of the first Beta release of the upcoming GNOME 3.22 "Karlsruhe" desktop environment for GNU/Linux operating systems.

Delayed almost a week, most probably because of the fact that the GNOME development team has just returned from the annual GUADEC developer conference, which took place two weeks ago, between August 12 and August 14, in Karlsruhe, Germany, the first Beta build of GNOME 3.22 desktop environment is finally here.

Dubbed GNOME 3.21.90, the first Beta build of the upcoming desktop environment is here to update many of the core components and applications that are usually distributed as part of the GNOME Stack. To see what's new, we recommend studying the CORE NEWS and APPS NEWS changelogs.

"GUADEC is over and we had to get home from Karlsruhe, this explains why this release got delayed a bit.  But here it is, first Beta of this cycle, GNOME 3.21.90," says Frederic Peters. "First Beta means we have now entered The Freeze. We are also now in String Change Announcement Period, [but] string changes can still be made."

GNOME 3.22 to arrive on September 21 with many goodies

The development cycle of the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment will continue with a second Beta build, dubbed GNOME 3.21.91, which should be available sometime at the end of the month, around the date of August 31, and will be followed two weeks later by the RC (Release Candidate) version (a.k.a. GNOME 3.21.92), on September 14, 2016.

The final release of the GNOME 3.22 "Karlsruhe" desktop environment will see the light of day on September 21, but it will take several weeks until we will see it in the main software repositories of our GNU/Linux distributions. Until then, we invite everyone to test drive the GNOME 3.22 Beta 1 milestone and report bugs.
