As expected, today, October 12, 2016, GNOME 3.22.1 has been announced by GNOME developer Frederic Peters as the first point release of the stable GNOME 3.22 desktop environment for GNU/Linux operating systems.

The GNOME 3.22 desktop environment launched only three weeks ago, on September 21, 2016, it's one of the best releases so far, with dozens of improvements and new features to both core components and applications distributed as part of the GNOME Stack, and now GNOME 3.22.1 is here to add more stability to the project.

"Here comes our first update to GNOME 3.22, with many bug fixes, documentation and translation updates, and various improvements," said Frederic Peters in today's email announcement. "Packages should shortly arrive in your distribution of choice, and if you want to compile GNOME 3.22.1 by yourself, you can use the jhbuild modulesets."

GNOME 3.22.2 coming November 9 as the last point release

If you're curious to know what exactly was changed in the GNOME 3.22.1 release, we recommend checking out the CORE NEWS and APPS NEWS files for all the juicy details. Also, if you want to install it on your GNU/Linux distribution, you'll have to use the jhbuild modulesets located at https://download.gnome.org/teams/releng/3.22.1/.

However, we strongly recommend that you wait for the new GNOME 3.22.1 packages to debut in the stable software repositories of your favorite Linux-based operating system. For now, it looks like they already started appearing in the stable Arch Linux repositories, so update your installation as soon as possible.

The release cycle of the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment won't stop here, as a second maintenance update, namely GNOME 3.22.2, is planned for next month, around November 9, 2016. GNOME 3.22.2 will also be the last point release in the series, bringing, as expected, even more bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements.
