14 DAY TRIAL // A few moments ago, GNOME Project's Michael Catanzaro proudly announced the release and general availability of the third development milestone towards the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment.
Yes, that's right, we're talking about GNOME 3.21.3, which arrives, as planned, today, June 22, 2016, for early adopters and public beta testers who want to get a very early taste of what's coming to the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment when it is released later this year for all GNU/Linux operating systems.
We've talked a lot about the GNOME 3.21.3 development release in the last few days, in particular about the Epiphany web browser, which will bring many enhancements for running Web Apps, the Orca screen reader and magnifier that promises Web and LibreOffice improvements, as well as GNOME Online Accounts and Shotwell.
The changelogs for the GNOME 3.21.3 core components and core apps are available online, along with the jhbuild modulesets that will allow some of you out there to fetch the sources and compile them on your GNU/Linux distribution. However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, so it's not stable enough to become your daily driver.
"GNOME 3.21.3, the third snapshot of the GNOME 3.21 cycle, is now available. You want it!" said Michael Catanzaro in the email announcement. "To compile GNOME 3.21.3, you can use the jhbuild modulesets (which use the exact tarball versions from the official release)."
GNOME 3.21.4 coming up next, GNOME 3.22 arrives on September 21
The development cycle for the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment will continue with one more snapshot, GNOME 3.21.4, due for release on July 20. Then, GNOME 3.22 enters Beta, and the first one will be available to public beta testers on August 17, right after the GUADEC conference.
A second Beta build will be out on the last day of August, followed two weeks later, on September 14, by the Release Candidate (RC) version. The final release of the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment should hit the streets on September 21, 2016. But until then, you can now test-drive GNOME 3.21.3 and discover the new features.
