14 DAY TRIAL // Just a few minutes ago, January 22, 2016, Javier Jardón of GNOME Project had the great pleasure of announcing the release and general availability of the fourth milestone towards the upcoming GNOME 3.20 desktop environment.
Our readers are used to us always covering the development cycle of a new GNOME release. Thus, for the GNOME 3.20 series, we've published several articles this week about the latest features implemented in the most interesting applications and core components that have been updated as part of today's GNOME 3.19.4 release, and a few more of them are coming in the next hours.
The GNOME 3.19.4 development snapshot was originally scheduled for release on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. However, it took the GNOME developers two more days to upload all the packages to the FTP servers and publish an announcement to inform those of you who want to take this early build for a test drive that they can do so by following the instructions below.
"GNOME 3.19.4 is out. This is a development snapshot, so use it with caution. To compile GNOME 3.19.4, you can use the jhbuild modulesets (which use the exact tarball versions from the official release). You can also test the latest code using the vm images that are produced by our continuous integration infrastructure, build.gnome.org," says Javier Jardón in today's announcement.
Next stop: GNOME 3.20 Beta 1
The development cycle of the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment will continue with the first of two Beta builds, which should see the light of day on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Then, we will be able to test the second Beta release of GNOME 3.20 on March 2, which will be followed closely by the Release Candidate (RC) version on March 16, 2016.
The final release of the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment will happen on March 23, 2016, as originally planned, and it will have, as usual, two maintenance releases. The first one, GNOME 3.20.1, will be available worldwide on April 13, 2016. Until then, you can now go forth and test the GNOME 3.19.4 milestone on your Linux box to see what new features have been implemented.
