Another development cycle has ended for GNOME

The GNOME development team has revealed that the final RC for GNOME 3.18 has been released and is now available for testing. The stable version of GNOME will arrive in less than a week.

The GNOME 3.18 development cycle is pretty much over and developers only have a few days to figure out whether any of the last minute stuff will be accepted into the software. The desktop environment has been following a pretty strict schedule and they managed to keep to it, so it won't be late for the final version.

The previous three releases for the GNOME stack have been very well received by users, and there is no reason to think that the same won't happen with 3.18. It already got a lot of attention with the Google Drive integration and it can proudly say that it's the first one to manage this.

GNOME 3.18 will be out next week

The final version of GNOME 3.18 is expected to arrive next Wednesday, on September 23, and so far there has been no reason to think that they won't keep to this date. It will be a while until you should able to play with all the cool stuff that's being added, but mostly likely we'll have it ready in Fedora soon.

"Here we are, this is the end of this development cycle and here comes a release candidate for you to download, build, and test. Enjoy it as fast as you can, the final release is scheduled next Wednesday. To compile GNOME 3.17.92, you can use the jhbuild modulesets published by the release team. We remind you we are string frozen, no string changes may be made without confirmation from the l10n team (gnome-i18n@) and notification to both the release team and the GNOME Documentation Project (gnome-doc-list@)," wrote Frederic Peters.

You can download the GNOME 3.18 RC stack from Softpedia, but keep in mind that these are the source packages and they are still far from stable. Don't use a production machine for testing.
