Google also launches Gmail Postmaster Tools for webmasters

Gmail has announced a major change to its service for end users and a new tool for webmasters and companies that send out large blocks of email in bulk.

As Google puts it, fighting spam will always be inefficient because of the way each user interprets spam in the first place.

As a result of this thinking, the company has started deploying a new artificial neural network to the world of spam-fighting.

This new AI is derived from the same algorithm used by Google Search and Google Now, and will be unique for each user, learning their email reading habits and helping Gmail mark spam differently to each user.

So whenever you press the “Report spam” and “Not spam” buttons from now on, you'll know that information won't be lost in the huge spam data Google receives, but will be remembered for your own account every time you login in the future.

"We also recognize that not all inboxes are alike. So while your neighbor may love weekly email newsletters, you may loathe them. With advances in machine learning, the spam filter can now reflect these individual preferences," says the Gmail team.

In addition to the new AI, the Gmail team has also announced Gmail Postmaster Tools, a service for webmasters and companies.

This new service was developed for high-volume email senders and can be used by server administrators to analyze how their emails reach their destination.

Gmail Postmaster Tools will let tech teams see if their emails arrive in their customers' inboxes safely, or something goes wrong along the way and it is classified as spam.

Besides the analysis tools, a collection of best practices for sending out emails is also included, a kind of Google Webmasters Tools for email senders.
