14 DAY TRIAL // Chinese company Gionee continues to launch Android smartphones in India to some success, but most of them belong to the entry-level and mid-range category.
The latest addition to Gionee’s Android portfolio is the Pioneer P5L. Those who know the company’s products very well probably remember that Gionee launched a device with a similar name back in 2014, but the sequel comes with a few improvements, TheTecholic reports.
First of all, the new Pioneer P5L includes VoLTE support, something that the previous model lacked. In addition to that, the smartphone packs an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as a secondary 5-megapixel camera on the front.
The old Pioneer P5L features a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a modest 2-megapixel selfie camera on the front, so this is a consistent improvement.
Also, instead of a 4.7-inch display, the new model sports a slightly larger 5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.
Better camera and larger display than the previous model
Gionee Pioneer P5L comes equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, paired with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.
Aside from 4G LTE with VoLTE support, the new Pioneer P5L offers other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with AGPS, and dual-SIM support.
It’s also worth mentioning that Pioneer P5L packs a 2,300 mAh battery inside, which hasn’t been rated by the manufacturer at the moment.
Software-wise, the smartphone ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, along with Amigo 3.1 UI on top of it.
Despite the fact that it’s a great improvement over the previous model, Gionee Pioneer P5L is still an entry-level handset, so expect it to be priced pretty low.
Speaking of which, the new Pioneer P5L is now available for purchase via Gionee’s online store for just Rs 8,499 ($125) outright. Customers can choose from different colors including black, white, red, blue, yellow, and golden.
