The minion caused at least one traffic accident

A most bizarre - and yet fairly entertaining, if observed from afar - occurrence played out in Ireland this past Monday. Its protagonists: a ginormous inflatable minion and some seriously confused drivers.

It all started when the inflatable minion, then traveling up and down Santry, a suburb on the northern side of Dublin, broke free from its designated ride.

What with winds being quite strong at the time, the minion went on a joyride and eventually landed smack in the middle of a busy road. Positively baffled, drivers did their best not to collide with it.

Even so, the Minion hit a car, knocking off its rear-view mirror in a most brutal fashion. Luckily, nobody was injured.

The police were quick to intervene

Alerted by the confused drivers who chanced to witness the entire affair, local law enforcement officers were quick to intervene and capture the giant yellow silhouette, putting an end to all the mayhem.

Rather than cuff the Minion and drag it back to the police station with them for questioning, the officers deflated it on site. When they made sure it no longer had a huff or a puff in it, they shoved it in the back of a car and whisked it away.

As mentioned, the minion did not cause any serious traffic accidents, and so nobody was injured. Still, this does not make it OK to laugh the mishap away.

“Escaped Minion at Omni in Santry may seem hilarious but it's a despicable breach of health & safety,” Dublin City Councilor Paul McAuliffe stressed in a Twitter post.

As for what a giant inflatable Minion was doing navigating Dublin's Santry suburb to begin with, word has it had been hired to do some PR for a local fair. Well, if it was getting people's attention the minion was after, its little stunt most definitely got the job done.
