14 DAY TRIAL // The development cycle of the GhostBSD 10.3 has started, and a first Alpha build is now ready for public testing, bringing various new features, several improvements, as well as bug fixes.
Based on the recently released FreeBSD 10.3 operating system, GhostBSD 10.3 should arrive later this year with support for the ZFS (Z File System) and UFS (Unix File System) filesystems. There's also ZFS encryption support in the installer, as well as quarterly updates to the GhostBSD Software applications, adding more stability to the OS.
"Yes we skip 10.2 for 10.3 since was FreeBSD 10.3 was coming we thought we should wait for 10.3. This is the first ALPHA development release for testing and debugging for GhostBSD 10.3, only as MATE been released yet which is available on SourceForge and for the amd64 and i386 architectures," reads the announcement.
What's new in GhostBSD 10.3 Alpha 1
The GhostBSD 10.3 Alpha 1 build comes with various changes, among which we can mention a revamped installer, which now features a new slide, a critical fix to the Networkmgr GTK network manager tool, along with various performance improvements, the MATE 1.12 desktop environment, and a brand new GRUB theme.
The list of changes continues with small UI and speed enhancements to the Update Station software manager, a fix for a Wi-Fi issue, mostly thanks to the addition of the latest Networkmgr version, and better support for installing various language translations.
GhostBSD 10.3 Alpha 1 is now available for download as 64-bit and 32-bit ISO images, but only with the MATE desktop environment. The rest of the editions should be available at a later time, as the development cycle of GhostBSD 10.3 advances. Please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
