Though it needs your help to start mass production

We’ve known for a while that Windows phones have no place in Microsoft’s vision, but despite the software giant itself acknowledging that no new features and hardware are planned, there are companies out there who still believe the platform has a chance to succeed.

One of them is German company Trekstor who wants to launch a new Windows 10 Mobile device, but it needs help from the community to get the necessary funds for making it possible.

The Trekstor Winphone 5.0 was originally announced earlier this year, but now the firm wants to publicly launch the device and it hopes Windows phone fans across the world could help it raise 500,000 Euro and start mass production.

Right now, campaign supporters donated 35,500 Euro with a month left on the clock, and while it seems impossible for the company to reach the 500,000 Euro goal, there’s hope the Windows phone community would join all forces to make it happen.

Technical specifications

Unfortunately, the Winphone 5.0 itself barely offers a reason to support the campaign, as the price of the phone itself is higher than in the case of other more powerful Windows phones already on the market.

For example, the 5.0-inch device will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core CPU with 1.5 GHz paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, with microSD card support offering an extra of 64GB should more storage be needed. The main camera is a 13-megapixel unit with dual flash, while the front-facing camera comes in the form of a 5-megapixel selfie cam.

The display is covered in Gorilla Glass 3, which isn’t quite the most durable protection given than the fifth generation is already available, while battery capacity is 2250 mAh. It tips the scales at 150 grams.

Trekstor says it estimates the device will hit the market in March 2018, obviously if the crowdfunding is successful, with the current price set at $249.
