Latest KDE Plasma desktop environment now available

The Sabayon project has always brought us a modern, rolling, reliable and easy-to-use GNU/Linux distribution based on the Gentoo operating system, which is known for being notoriously difficult to install.

If you want to use Gentoo Linux on your desktop or laptop computer, you'll have to install Sabayon, which follows a rolling release model where you install once and enjoy up-to-date software forever, or until your PC breaks. However, like any other rolling release distro out there, Sabayon gets monthly ISO respins.

Sabayon 16.11 is now available for download today, October 29, bringing us an updated installation medium that contains all the software releases and core components pushed to the stable repositories of the distribution during the month of October 2016, including the Linux 4.8 kernel, KDE Plasma 5.8, and GNOME 3.22 desktop environments.

But wait, that's not all, as Sabayon 16.11 appears to be more than a monthly ISO refresh, and includes some major additions, such as a new Anaconda installer, revamped artwork, a brand-new greeter, improved Entropy package manager, and support for new ARM devices, including the Banana Pi single-board computer (SBC).

"This Sabayon release is the result of team work, time and care, to provide you with a stable, solid and bleeding edge release! There are a lot of exciting changes in this release," reads today's announcement. "We’ve added support for Odroid X2/U2/U3/C2 ARM devices, and thanks to geaaru, we added BananaPi to the list too."

New Sabayon Linux release schedule announced

We told you above that Sabayon is a rolling release with monthly ISO respins, but it looks like that's about to change starting today as the development team decided to change the release schedule and move to a different one where stable releases are published only at the end of the months of January, May, and October.

Anyway, hardcore Sabayon Linux users will be able to access the Daily Build ISO images from the same location as always if they plan on reinstalling or deploying the OS on new systems without having to go to all the trouble of fetching hundreds of updates from the repositories after installing the distro. Download Sabayon 16.11 now.
