Microsoft confirms that, for a limited time, anyone who purchases the upcoming Gears of War Ultimate Edition on Xbox One will be able to play on that console the full Gears of War collection via the backwards compatibility feature that launches this fall.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition is set to debut later this month and remasters the first game in the long-running third-person shooter series. After explaining why it wasn't feasible to remake the whole saga, developer The Coalition dropped hints that previous games might still arrive on Xbox One through the upcoming backwards compatibility system.

Microsoft confirms backwards compatibility for all Gears titles

Now, Microsoft confirms on the Xbox Wire that it's going to debut with the backwards compatibility system full support for all four Gears of War titles, i.e. 1, 2, 3, and Judgment.

What's more, those who buy the upcoming Gears of War Ultimate Edition or the Xbox One bundle with the game will get free access to all four original titles on the new console, once backwards compatibility rolls around this fall.

Beard in mind that the offer is valid until December 31, 2015, so you might want to get the special Ultimate Edition sooner rather than later. Alongside this new deal, those who buy the game also get early access to the Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta in 2016.

Microsoft also mentions that Xbox Live Preview members who own the digital copy of Gears of War on the Xbox 360 will be able to try out its backwards compatibility version on the Xbox One later today, when a new preview firmware update is going to launch across the online service. Shadow Complex owners will also be able to try out that old Xbox 360 game as well.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition launches on August 25, worldwide, on Xbox One and Windows 10-powered PCs. Expect to hear more about it tomorrow, during Microsoft's Gamescom 2015 press event.
