Gears of War 4 is one of the biggest video games set to arrive on the Xbox One this year, and the developers from The Coalition and publisher Microsoft have finally delivered a full trailer for the title, which was initially shown during the first episode of the new season of Fear the Walking Dead.

There's not a lot of new information to get from the computer-generated footage, but the two companies have integrated themes that have long been associated with the franchise, like the importance of legacy and the advantage of carrying powerful weaponry while running through the rain.

The focus is squarely on JD Fenix, the son of Marcus, who will be the protagonist of Gears of War 4 as he explores his childhood courtyard under very inauspicious performances while a classic cover song plays in the background.

The trailer is just the first in what's sure to be a very sustained promotional campaign for the third-person shooter currently set to arrive on the Xbox One on October 11.

Gamers who have played Gears of War: Ultimate are also invited to get into the beta stage for the experience, which will test the infrastructure and the mechanics, and will be launched on April 18, with general access coming on April 24 for those with Xbox Live.

Gears of War 4 will feature new battle mechanics and enemies

This first trailer offers only a glimpse of the kind of opponent that JD Fenix and gamers will have to deal with, collected under the name of The Swarm and designed to add a little horror back into the series.

The Coalition says that the action in Gears of War 4 takes place over a 24-hour period. It sees three characters working outside of the jurisdiction of the abandoned GOG explore areas of Sera to see how the planet was affected by the previous games and what kind of defenses it has developed.

The battles will continue to mix third-person shooter and cover elements, but the developers are planning to make weather an important element, with powerful windstorms affecting how characters and enemies position themselves tactically.

The new single-player campaign will be used as the basis for a new trilogy. Gears of War 4 will also have an extensive multiplayer component, which has not yet been delayed, and will support two-player local cooperative action.
