14 DAY TRIAL // Google has just brought a new update to one of the tech giant’s proprietary apps, Gboard. The update makes Gboard smarter by improving the typing quality using machine intelligence and bringing new and creative ways to enhance user experience.
Google Gboard can now recognize hand-drawn emojis automatically. In the emoji search box, users can now tap on the emoji handwriting icon to start drawing emojis directly onto the screen. Gboard opens a special panel on the bottom and provides users with suggestions of emojis as they draw, so they wouldn’t necessarily need to complete the drawing before identifying the emoji that they were looking for in the first place.
In addition, Google added new phrase suggestions to help users text even faster. The suggestions predict what users plan to type next. As such, Gboard may suggest phrases that would logically follow in a sentence, so that users could finish their text faster. The feature is supported only in English, but will receive support in more languages soon, although Google didn’t reveal the exact date.
Gboard now offers search suggestions directly in the keyboard
Aside from this, Gboard now offers multiple results for when users search in the keyboard. The app may provide suggestions of restaurants, movies, places near the user’s location. This would make it easier to search for information in any application and share it, without having to open up Google Chrome or another mobile browser.
Moreover, users can tap on suggestions to open Google Maps, call businesses or watch a YouTube video. To enable the feature, users simply need to press on the G or arrow in Gboard and start searching.
Google has also announced that Gboard now supports more than 200 language varieties and the company intends to add suggestions and gesture typing for a number of languages, including Azerbaijani (Iran), Dhivehi, French (Belgium), Hawaiian, Maori and Samoan. The new features that Google included in the update are already available in the latest version of Gboard for Android.
