Google constantly updates its proprietary applications with various features and tools, and Gboard is the latest to get an update. Google just announced that it introduced new languages and text editing tools to its Gboard application for Android.

The company revealed that it added 22 Indic languages to Gboard’s over 120 languages. It also added transliteration support to the app, together with new text editing tools to make it easier for users to select, copy and paste text using the application. Transliteration is a feature that helps users spell words phonetically, for when they’re not sure about how a certain work is typed.

Gboard also welcomed new options for resizing and repositioning the keyboard on the screen, so that it fits to the texting style and hand shape of various users. The app now made glide typing and suggestions available in more than 185 languages, while improvements for better accuracy and predictions were also introduced.

New customization tools for Gboard are available

In order to bring the new features to Gboard, Google stated that it worked closely with speakers from across India and collected data for training machine learning models, so that more and more users can type in their native language.

Gboard also includes shortcuts to Google Search and Google Translate directly on the keyboard, as well as a new text editing mode with buttons for easy cursor control. To access the new feature, users simply need to select the Text Editing icon, located in the quick features menu.

New customization options were also added to Gboard, to allow users to resize the keyboard and change its position on the screen. To access the new tool, users simply need to press the G icon and tap on More. The update to Gboard is already available in the Play store.  Recently, Google rolled out an update to help Maps users remember where they parked their car and the tech giant is also working on enhanced facial recognition features for its Photos app.
