Samsung has been said to be preparing a compensation program for Galaxy Note 7 customers, so that it may regain some of the consumer trust that it lost when it announced the discontinuation of its latest flagship.

And today, Samsung has announced that the program is now official for its South Korean customers. Galaxy Note 7 customers from Samsung’s home country will be eligible to receive discounts for the purchase of a new Galaxy S8 or Note 8.

Apparently, Korean customers who trade in their Note 7 for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge will be able to pay half the price for a Galaxy S8 or Note 8, after the smartphones are released next year. Moreover, they will also receive a 50% discount on LCD repair costs twice.

The Galaxy Upgrade program expires on November 30

The Galaxy Upgrade program doesn’t have any monthly fees, as opposed to the currently existing Galaxy Club program. It seems that the new compensation program has a time limit, set for November 30, and Samsung is expected to consult with carrier partners in order to announce the new joining method.

Reuters reports that Note 7 customers who already exchanged their Galaxy Note 7 smartphones for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge can join the program by submitting a retrospective application.

The upgrade program was announced only in South Korea for now, but the company is expected to make it available in other countries as well. Samsung is already offering incentives to Note 7 owners who exchange their phones, but they depend on the country or place of purchase.

The device maker is expected to unveil the upcoming Galaxy S8 in February next year, although the development is said to be delayed by two weeks, until the company finds the exact cause of the Galaxy Note 7 flaw that led to its demise. Some rumors from a few weeks ago said that Samsung might not launch a successor to the Note 7, but it seems that there are chances for the Note 8 to arrive next year after all.
