Unfortunately, only for developers

God, I know Google is one of the top companies on the web, but there are way too many rumors concerning the gPhone. This piece of speculation sustains the long-discussed gPhones are already shipping by the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC. This is not the first time when HTC is brought into discussions, so there must be a grain of truth somewhere. According to CNN Money, a UBS analyst confirmed the fact that HTC is currently working on the latest details about a 50,000-phone distribution which seem to be equipped (not surprisingly) with Google's mobile phone operating system.

A few weeks ago, when it was first rumored that Google's gPhone would be equipped with the company's operating system, it was stated that this software solution would be based on Linux, but that it may bundle all the mobile technologies powered by the super giant. Today's news says nothing about Linux, but it mentions once again that the handhelds can be equipped with Google's operating system.

Getting back to the device, it's very likely to see HTC as the possible manufacturer for the handheld product as it already created lots of phones for many other companies. However, Benjamin Schachter, the analyst who talked with the folks from CNN Money, sustains LG might be the one chosen by Google. "If I had to guess, I'd say LG would be one of them", he stated for the source mentioned above.

Now let me tell you the bad news: the phones which are supposed to be delivered by HTC are not intended to be used by the end-consumers! It seems that the Mountain View company wants to offer the device to developers, in order to see how it works and to fix potential problems before the handheld reaches the market. "These initial phones are not going to be for sale. These are going to be available for developers only to understand how the software works", the analyst added for CNN Money.
