gMaps Pro, the third-party Google Maps mobile client for devices running under Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, has been recently updated and is now available for download as version 2.1.0.3.

Compatible with all Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 devices, the application provides users with access to Google Maps while on the go, although the company behind it is not related to Google, it seems.

In addition to enabling users to find their location on the map, the application also offers support for layers, including street, satellite, traffic, bike, weather, and more.

Furthermore, it features a search tool through which users can easily find places or streets they are interested in, and is also capable of offering directions, Street View, My Places, sharing capabilities, and other useful functionality.

In the latest release of the application, various enhancements have been provided for the Street View module (already available in the Windows 8 flavor of the software), as well as for the Driver Mode and Latitude, WMPoweruser notes in a recent post.

The release notes of the app show the following:

- Street View – Previous Street View version has limited ability to browse views and has not optimized rendering engine. Now you can enjoy the full 360-degree panoramic Street View with ability to move in the Street View mode. Just use arrows to choose panorama direction. You also got the option to enable High Quality (HQ) tiles what makes panoramas just great.

- Driver Mode – The second improvement connected with the Driver Mode. We return the ability to activate/deactivate this mode by tap on your location. The main change here is move the center of the rotation to the bottom of the screen giving user an ability to see more map in advance. This change also fixed issue with clipped route/objects on the map during rotation. The pleasant addition here is fix for proper rotation of the map pushpins and other objects. Previously they have static heading what force them to appear at the bottom head during map rotation. Just tap on your location and enjoy.

- Latitude – The final improvement (which is not visible from the user interface) for this release is about Google Latitude. We have greatly improved your data connection usage by decreasing traffic amount, which we sent to Latitude backend.

gMaps Pro for Windows Phone can be found available for download on this page in the official Windows Phone Store. The application is priced at $2.49 (€1.90), but users will be able to try it for free should they be interested in it.
