If you installed the latest iOS 11 software update on your iPhone devices chances are some previous functionality is missing, such as the ability to use 3D Touch to activate the app switcher, that if your iDevice supports 3D Touch.

iOS 11 brought numerous goodies, such as a revamped control center, new Files app for file browsing, a macOS-like dock for iPad users, drag and drop support, Do Not Disturb driving mode, Apple Pencil and Siri improvements, keyboard enhancements, new AirPlay 2 protocol, Apple Pay Cash, and many others.

Some of these features aren't yet available in iOS 11, as Apple plans to bring them with future maintenance updates. However, iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 users have noticed that their beloved 3D Touch-enabled App Switcher is missing after updating to iOS 11, so someone asked Apple about it.

When iOS 11 was in Beta stages of development earlier this summer, developer Bryan Irace asked Apple why 3D Touch multitasking was removed. Apple replied that the feature was intentionally removed, not mentioning if it will be re-enabled in a future update or anything else. Now, the final release of iOS 11 is out and the feature is still missing.

Apple's Craig Federighi confirms 3D Touch App Switcher will make a comeback

A reader of the MacRumors website contacted Apple software engineering Craig Federighi in regards to the missing feature, if it could be enabled in the future, who replied: "We regretfully had to temporarily drop support for this gesture due to a technical constraint. We will be bringing it back in an upcoming iOS 11.x update. Thanks (and sorry for the inconvenience)!"

So there you have it, Apple has confirmed that the 3D Touch App Switcher will make a comeback is a future iOS 11 software update, most probably 11.1 considering the fact that it's a very requested functionality amongst iPhone users. Until then, keep calm and update your devices to iOS 11 if you want to enjoy all the goodies that Apple has prepared for this major update, especially if you're an avid iPad user.
