It looks like Microsoft won't be the only company to launch Windows 10 Mobile handsets this year, as Japanese OEM Freetel announced its first smartphone powered by this mobile platform will be available for purchase on November 30.

According to WindowsCentral, Katana 01 is one of the first Windows 10 Mobile units to be launched in Japan. It will be available for purchase for just $105 outright, which points at a budget-friendly device.

The Katana 01 won't be the only Windows 10 Mobile smartphone Freetel plans to launch in Japan. We reported back in June that two smartphones running Microsoft's new version of Windows Phone will be released in Japan this year: Katana 01 and Katana 02.

Katana 01 has just been confirmed for a November 30 release, but Freetel has yet to make any announcements regarding Katana 02, which is a slightly better device.

A second Windows 10 Mobile smartphone from Freetel should arrive soon

Speaking of which, Katana 01 sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 854 x 480 pixels resolution. It packs only 8GB of internal memory, but users can expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

It's unclear what type of processor is inside Katana 01, but we do know it's a quad-core CPU. We also know the smartphone features 1GB of RAM and dual-SIM support.

At the back, the phone packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, whereas in the front there's a modest 2-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. It will drain energy from a removable 1,750 mAh battery.

Obviously, Katana 01 will run the last version of Windows 10 Mobile, though we doubt the smartphone will support Windows Insider program anytime soon.

Also, Freetel's Katana 01 will be exclusively available in Japan, so don't expect to be able to grab this one unless you live in this country.
