The other day, a video from a surfing event in South Africa went viral: surfing champ Mick Fanning was attacked by a shark before the competition and managed to escape unharmed, after punching the shark.

Obviously, Mick and the shark became a meme soon after. It makes sense if you think about it: the man punched the shark twice to save his own life, who does that? It might sound like the craziest thing to do, but it worked.

Organizers canceled the event after this, and everyone involved breathed in relief that no one was hurt. Presumably, the shark wasn't either, in case you were wondering.

According to Fox News and their Brian Kilmeade, to prevent further attacks on regular swimmers and professional surfers, organizers should somehow “clear the water of sharks” before surfing events. Video is embedded below, at the end of this post.

Forget about the fact that the ocean is the sharks’ home and man is an intruder there and that removing them would cause an imbalance in the ecosystem, if surfers aren’t safe from attacks, who is? Sharks must therefore be eliminated somehow.

Obviously, Kilmeade’s comment caught the attention of the Twitterverse, with many having a very good laugh at his expense. You can see some samples of the things said on social media about this below.
