Not everything that Ryan Seacrest touches turns to gold: his latest foray into the field of unscripted programming, a reality show called Knock Knock Live, has been canceled after just 2 episodes, because of very disappointing ratings.

The idea for the show was that Ryan and his celebrity guests would knock at regular people’s doors and surprise them with all kinds of prizes. The cases featured were of families with financial or health issues, so the visit from the celebrity was twice a reason to rejoice.

Viewers weren’t too thrilled by the concept: according to The Hollywood Reporter, the series premiered to 1.75 million viewers on July 21, with the second episode getting even less, 1.6 million total viewers.

Ironically, the second episode featured celebrity guest Justin Bieber, who visited not one but 2 families: he helped a meningitis survivor get the quinceanera she missed while in hospital, fighting for her life, and he presented the father of a boy with Down syndrome with a check for $50,000 (€45,566).

That was still not enough to make the new show interesting.

In the space vacated by Knock Knock Live, Fox will be airing re-runs.
