Video game developer Turn 10 and publisher Microsoft are announcing that they are launching the beta version of Forza 6: Apex on May 5, allowing PC gamers to get access to the racing experience that has long been impressive on the Xbox One.

This version of the title is entirely free, which means that it's unlikely the two companies will announce another full launch date, and will offer access to six locations with 20 tracks as well as 63 unique cars.

As with the Xbox One version of Forza 6, there are night races to take part in and contests that take place on rain affected circuits and gamers can turn on full vehicle damage for a more interesting experience.

The PC-focused Apex uses the improved hardware, if available, to deliver support for 4K resolution via DirectX 12, and there are also new systems, including Race Points, which offers rewards as the player improves his driving and a new single-player focused Showcase Tour with 12 core events.

According to Turn 10, the plan is to deliver improvements for Forza 6: Apex all through the summer, with the team, focused on adding features like wheel support, more graphics options and a framerate counter for starters.

It also seems that the racing title will use the Drivatar technology to deliver friends profiles for all player races, but at launch, it will not have an actual online multiplayer.

Turn 10 offers a look at the system requirements

At a minimum, gamers will have to run Windows 10 running at 64-bit with an Intel Core i7-3820 3.6 GHz CPU and 8 GB of RAM, while in the graphics department they need a Nvidia GeForce GT 740 or Radeon R7 250X, with 30 GB of free hard drive space to install the game.

Those who want to run Forza 6: Apex ay 1080p and 60 frames per second need at least an Intel Core i7-3820 3.6 GHz and either an Nvidia GeForce 970 or Radeon R9 290X with 4 GB of graphics RAM and 12 GB of system memory.

For 4K resolution, PC players should have Intel Core i7-6700k 4 Ghz, with Nvidia GeForce GTX 980ti or Radeon Fury X that have 6 GB of video RAM, an SSD and 16 GB of system memory.

Turn 10 and Microsoft are also working on a new Forza title, which will be launched on the Xbox One during the fall and will have the new Lamborghini Centenario on the cover.
