14 DAY TRIAL // Fortnite Battle Royale is going to land on Android and iOS, Epic Games revealed in a surprise announcement.
Fortnite Battle Royale on mobile platforms is proof that phones are finally catching up, or at least they are reaching a level that's adequate. Getting a game such as Fortnite to run on a phone must be a technical challenge for Epic Games, but it’s true that some of the devices available right now are pretty powerful, such as the latest generation of iPhone or Android.
In case you didn’t already know, Battle Royale is a mod for Fortnite, the immensely popular shooter developed by Epic Games. Players get to face off with 99 other people on a single island, where chaos and fun are guaranteed.
It’s the same with the other version
What Epic Games is doing is pretty cool because they are not settling for a washed-up version made just for mobile platforms. They promise that the same content that’s available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Mac OS will also hit the phones. And that includes the same map, the same kind of gameplay, and even the same weekend updates.
Epic Games is also looking for the holy grail of multiple platforms, and that is cross-play. For now, the ability to interact with people from other platforms has been limited, to say the least, but the developers have other plans.
“In partnership with our friends at Sony, Fortnite Battle Royale will support Cross Play and Cross Progression between PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, iOS and eventually Android. This means players across devices can squad up with friends and play together,” wrote Epic Games in their official announcement.
The only difference is that Fortnite Battle Royale won’t be arriving on both Android and iOS at once. For now, only iOS users will be able to enjoy the game, but Epic has promised that Android will soon get the same treatment.
The requirements don’t seem all that steep. You will need iOS 11 and 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, or iPad 2017 devices.
