Obi Worldphone co-founder John Sculley has just announced his company will release a new Android smartphone for young professionals, the MV1.

Former Apple CEO, John Sculley, is the co-founder of a company that launches Android smartphones in Asia mostly, but the MV1 will be available in Africa, Europe and Latin America as well.

The Obi Worldphone MV1 costs only $140 outright and should hit shelves sometime in March. We don't expect it to be available at the same time in all these regions, but the rollout should begin next month.

It's also worth mentioning that Obi's affordable smartphone will be available in various color options, including Black, Red, and White.

Considering the phone's low price, don't expect any impressive features. However, the Obi Worldphone MV1 is pretty decent spec-wise and looks amazing for the price you pay.

First of all, Obi confirmed the MV1 comes with Cyanogen OS 12.1.1, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system.

The smartphone sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

Snapdragon 212 CPU under the hood, dual-SIM support

On the inside, the MV1 packs a 1.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor, coupled with 1 or 2GB of RAM, as well as 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

At the back, the phone features an 8-megapixel photo snapper with OmniVision sensor, f/2.2 aperture, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. There's also a secondary 2-megapixel camera in the front.

The smartphone includes support for dual-SIM (micro + nano) and features DTS sound and dual mics for noise cancellation. Obi Worldphone MV1 is powered by a 2,500 mAh battery and offers 4G LTE support, along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS with AGPS.

“What we’ve done with the Obi Worldphone from the very beginning is show that it’s possible to have a beautifully designed phone that fits into your lifestyle at an accessible price without sacrificing form and technology. You don’t have to give up style in exchange for substance. With the MV1, you can have both,” said Obi Worldphone co-founder John Sculley.
