14 DAY TRIAL // All the eyes are on the new iPhone X that Apple launched a few hours ago, but in the meantime, users who just don’t want to give up on their Windows phones have bigger news to get.
Windows 10 Mobile build 15250, which is available for users in the Fast ring as part of the Windows Insider program, brings no less than 3 new features, which is quite something given that most of the previous builds included bug fixes and nothing more.
Unfortunately for users who wanted to see Windows 10 Mobile evolve with more consumer-oriented features, these 3 new additions are entirely focused on the enterprise, which does nothing more than to confirm where Microsoft is heading with its mobile operating system.
What’s new in build 15250?
So let’s start with the new features that are part of this build, as this is something that doesn’t happen every day for users in the Windows phone community.
First and foremost, Microsoft is introducing two-factor authentication, which makes it possible to enable a more complex authentication unlock mechanism for Windows 10 Mobile.
This means that enterprises can enforce an additional security layer via an MDM policy, so after users provide their passwords, they could also be required to complete one extra step to unlock the phone, like activating a companion device such as an NFC tag.
Also, the enterprise security is being boosted with more AppLocker improvements based on the customer feedback pointing to the warning prompts for apps blocked by in-place policies.
“We’ve improved the UX and updated the MDM SyncML scripts associated with the policies. Application restrictions can be configured by either the ApplicationManagement CSP or AppLocker CSP,” Microsoft explains.
And last but not least, this build introduces VPN improvements, such as refinements to proxy for UWP VPN profile, MMS usage that can be enabled when VPN is connected, IKEv2 Sleep and Power tweaks, and reliability enhancements.
