Latest Unicode updates available for mobile users as well

Microsoft has just released a new Windows 10 Mobile build, this time bringing a bunch of new features, and not sticking just with bug fixes as it was the case of previous builds.

First and foremost, it’s worth noting that this build is being shipped as part of a staggered release, which means users are getting it gradually, so some might have to wait a few more hours until it shows up in Windows Update. Then, it’s exclusively aimed at the Fast ring, with no word just as to when and if it could be pushed to the Slow ring as well.

The biggest change in this build is the addition of Emoji 5.0, which is based on the latest Unicode updates and bringing mobile emoji in line with the ones on PC.

“Just like we did on PC, we have added support for the latest Unicode updates – including new snacks, actions, dinosaurs, and even fantasy characters like genies, fairies and zombies – to Windows 10 Mobile in this build. They’re all accessible via both the touch keyboard and the Emoji Panel. We’ve tweaked some of our original emoji designs based on your feedback and to improve consistency with how the emoji is displayed on other platforms (while maintaining our Windows style),” Microsoft says.

Additionally, Microsoft has also added support for Chinese Lunar calendar, which is now available on both PC and mobile. The new version is available under Calendar app > Settings > Calendar settings > Alternative Calendars > Chinese and Lunar.

There are also two fixes in this build, one of which addresses apps not being saved to the SD card and failing with error 8007000B. Microsoft says that it’s still aware of a bug impacting apps that you install or update from the Windows Store, with error 80070057 being shown in this case.

As for PCs, there’s no new build this week, as Microsoft says it has come across a major bug, so PC insiders would only get new goodies after the weekend.
