Note 8 to launch with dual-camera setup, leaks have shown

Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 8 will feature a dual-camera system similar to the one on the iPhone 7 Plus, but as compared to Apple, Samsung is pushing this approach one step further.

Well-known KGI analyst Ming-Chi Guo has reportedly said that the Note 8 will indeed feature dual cameras, but unlike Apple, Samsung would bet more on optical zoom. This means the Note 8 has big chances to come with 3x optical zoom, an improvement from the 2x offered by Apple on its bigger iPhone 7.

The Note 8 will arrive with a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and the analyst says that an optical image stabilization system will also be offered.

The new phablet will be unveiled on August 23 in New York and people close to the matter indicated that the top configuration could be priced at approximately $900.

Fingerprint sensor on the back

Samsung will use a 6.3-inch bezel-less display on the Note 8 and, contrary to initial rumors that the company would embed the fingerprint sensor into the screen, it will actually adopt the same approach as on the Galaxy S8 and place the reader on the back of the phone.

Leaks have shown that because of the dual-camera setup, the fingerprint sensor will be moved a little bit closer to the right edge of the screen, which should make it a little bit easier to reach, especially when holding the phone with one hand.

Apple appears to have the same struggle, with Cupertino also looking into a new position for its own Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and it’s still unclear whether the company would manage to integrate it into the display ahead of the debut of the iPhone 8 in September or not.

The iPhone 8 will also feature a dual-camera system, though the optical zoom level is not known for the time being, with a vertical layout this time.
