The development for foobar2000 keeps on going, with the developer releasing a fresh beta, for version 1.2.6 of the audio player.

One of the new modifications in this revision touches on Windows 8 and the “connected standby” feature, which would cease most of the computer activity in order to preserve battery power.

Foobar2000 1.2.6 now comes with the option to prevent the display from entering this idle mode so that the player continues its activity unhindered.

At the moment, the rest of the modifications in this revision are repairs. As such, ReplayGain tagging should now work with AIFF items. Furthermore, the developer fixed the issue that occurred when updating attached images in files with ID3v2.2 tags.

A more important fix refers to a crash that would occur upon embedding specific image files into OGG Vorbis format.

foobar2000 is available for download from this link; during installation you can choose to make it portable.
