Today, the first beta for foobar2000 1.2.4 has been released. According to the developer, the most significant improvement in this revision is a much faster ReplayGain scanner.

ReplayGain scanner is the component that measures the loudness of audio files and allows the player to normalize it, so you don’t have to adjust the volume level for each track.

Also improved is the fact that the component should no longer ignore up to 100ms of the last audio data.

Further modifications refer to a faster SSE-optimized codepaths, which has as direct effect a more efficient handling of 24-bit content.

The fresh revision offers the option to verify the integrity of played files and immediately report the errors, if any; the developer informs that the procedure does not include verification of whole-file checksums.

A problem in the status bar, with the volume icon being at an incorrect location, has also been fixed.

foobar2000 is available for download from this link; during installation you can choose to make it portable.
