Fitbit SDK will be available to download on September 26

Fitbit, the well-known maker of fitness wristbands and smartwatches, announced on Monday the worldwide availability of its next-generation Fitbit Ionic smartwatch and Fitbit Flyer wireless headphones on October 1, 2017.

Designed to become the ultimate health and fitness smartwatch, Fitbit Ionic comes with innovative technologies, including 24/7 state-of-the-art heart rate tracking, industry-leading GPS support, automatic sleep tracking with Sleep Stages, on-device guided workouts, contactless payments, clock faces, and built-in music player.

Fitbit Ionic promises a more powerful battery that should last for up to 5 days, and the Fitbit promises that the device will be fully compatible with Android and iOS devices. Customers will also be able to elevate their Fitbit Ionic smartwatch with apps that they can install from Fitbit App Gallery.

On the other hand, Fitbit Flyer is company's first wireless headphones, which feature a sweatproof and durable design, customizable fit, as well as advanced sound performance. Customers will be able to pair the headphones to the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch, as well as Audio Coaching from the Fitbit Coach app.

"We defined the fitness tracker market 10 years ago and look forward to doing the same with the smartwatch category, delivering what consumers want most and have not yet seen in a smartwatch," said James Park, Co-founder and CEO of Fitbit in the press release.

Fitbit Ionic and Flyer available worldwide on October 1, 2017

Fitbit has set the official launch date of its Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Flyer devices for October 1, 2017, when customers interested in purchasing either or both devices will be able to buy them from Amazon, Best Buy, Verizon, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Macy’s, Kohl’s, REI, Brookstone, and Nordstrom.

The starting price for Fitbit Ionic is $299.95 USD, while Fitbit Flyer are selling for $129.95 USD. Customers can also purchase Classic or Sport bands for Fitbit Ionic from $29.95 USD or hand-crafted and perforated Horween leather bands from $59.95 USD in the United States.

The company also announced today that it would launch the Fitbit SDK (Software Development Kit) to developers want to create apps for Fitbit Ionic tomorrow, September 26, 2017, as a Developer Preview, and invited customer interested in the Fitbit Aria 2 Wi-Fi Smart Scale to pre-order one right now from fitbit.com for $129.95 USD.
