Fitbit has just announced new updates for its activity trackers that would make working out a more social activity with a Facebook-like feed and more personalized exercises.

Specifically, the Fitbit and the Fitbit Personal Trainer app will get a new update for the Blaze activity tracker that will include a so-called Feed working very similarly to what you can find on Facebook right now.

The feed will let you connect with friends and other people and share moments from your exercises, photos, badges and stats in a Facebook-like interface. You can also read content written by Fitbit health and fitness experts, and discover and attend workouts by trainers.

Friends and groups will also be supported to expand the community, and you’ll be allowed to discuss a variety of topics, such as fitness, nutrition, wellness, and weight loss.

More personalized workouts

Additionally, Fitbit will also introduce the Fitbit Personal Trainer, which will be more of a feature providing guided workouts that are specifically tailored for you. Users will get access to recommended workouts based on their daily routines tracked by Fitbit devices, customize the workout soundtrack with Fitstar Radio, and set a new personal goal with your own health and fitness objectives.

There will also be new tools in the Fitbit app, including a cardio fitness level which according to the company “provides a snapshot of your cardiovascular fitness. Based on estimated VO2 Max - calculated by your user profile, heart rate and exercise data - you can easily see how your fitness level relates to others of the same age and gender, and get guidance on how to improve over time.”

The Blaze will also get guided breathing sessions, a feature that’s already available on other Fitbit devices such as the Charge 2 but missing on this one, plus three new clock faces for more personalization options.

The Fitstar Personal Trainer app with the new features is already available on Android and iOS, while Community will debut in the Fitbit app in the US in March 2017 and in the rest of the world later this year. Personal Goal Setting will be available to all existing Fitbit app users globally in January 2017, Fitbit says, and Blaze will get the rest of the features next month.
