The good news is Nexus 5 might be upgraded to Android N

We're still about three months away from the Android N's official reveal and probably another five until the actual release on the market.

However, Google has just posted the first Android N screenshots in its developers page. The information has been confirmed by Android guru Artem Russakovskii, but that doesn't mean that what we see can't change in the next couple of months.

The first thing we notice in these screenshots is the fact that Google has decided to introduce hamburger menus in addition to the dots menus. Some might find this a bit too much, but Android N seems to come with both hamburger and dots menus later this year.

There might be some sense in adding both hamburger and dots menus, such as the fact that users will be able to quickly switch to other settings sections.

But that would mean that the button with the hamburger menu will only be available for the Settings in general, not within particular sections of the Android's UI.

We will probably know more in the next couple of months as more screenshots of Android N will emerge online.

Nexus 5 might be eligible for Android N upgrade

Another interesting thing that we noticed is the fact that Android N does seem to run on the Nexus 5. Android 6.0 Marshmallow should have been the last major update for Nexus 5, but these screenshots have been captured on this particular device.

This leads us to believe there might be a chance for Nexus 5 owners to get Android N when it gets released this fall, or perhaps earlier.

Google has already confirmed its I/O conference will take place between May 18 and 20, where we expect the company to announce Android N. However, the release of the new mobile platform will probably be set for later this fall.
