Microsoft compiles the first build that’s part of Redstone 3

Microsoft is projected to launch the new Windows 10 Creators Update in April, and with the upcoming version already feature-locked and the company working exclusively on fixing bugs and performance improvements, part of the Windows team is focusing on what comes next, which is the Redstone 3 update due in the fall.

And because work on Windows 10 Redstone 3 has already started, the first build that’s part of this new release was spotted on BuildFeed, confirming that the company has indeed compiled it internally and it’s probably testing it as we speak.

Windows 10 build 15141 is part of the rs_prerelease branch, which is the early stage of Redstone 3, while the existing Windows 10 Creators Update builds have already been promoted to rs2_release as we’re getting closer to the public launch.

Although the first Redstone 3 build is now compiled, this doesn’t mean that Microsoft will release it to users. The first public version is likely to surface sometime after the debut of the Creators Update in April.

Not yet public

Of course, it goes without saying that no breaking changes will be included in the first Redstone 3 builds, as the company first wants to prepare the foundation for more important features coming later this year. This happened with the Creators Update and is a strategy very likely to be adopted for the Redstone 3 as well.

If the existing information is correct, then Windows 10 Redstone 3 should see daylight in the fall, with some sources saying that the company is eyeing a release in November. Windows 10 Redstone 3 could be version 1711, with Windows insiders to receive the RTM build in late October.

The Redstone 3 update will bring several new features to all Windows 10 devices, including UI refinements that are part of a project currently called NEON and relying on visual effects such as blur and transparency.

We’ll find out more about Redstone 3 in the coming months, especially as new builds are compiled, but for the moment, the focus is on getting the Creators Update ready for the April release.
