Marilyn Manson had tried his hand at acting before, to more or less spectacular results, but after his stint on the TV series “Sons of Anarchy,” he’s ready for a meatier role. He gets it in the indie revenge drama “Let Me Make You a Martyr,” which just got its first official trailer.

You can find it in full below. The film, directed by Corey Asraf and John Swab, off a script by Asraf, won’t be out in theaters until 2016, but the trailer is interesting enough to make the long wait worthwhile.

Manson plays a Native American hitman working on the orders of a man played by his former SOA co-star Mark Boone Junior. Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, the shock rocker says that it was Boone who convinced him to give the part a chance and to push himself more as an actor.

The story revolves around 2 adopted siblings who fall in love and vouch to break free from their abusive father by killing him.

However, it’s not the plotline that’s been getting attention online, but rather the fact that Native American groups were offended that the producers didn’t cast a Native American for Manson’s role.

He addresses that in the aforementioned interview, saying that he’s actually part Indian on his mother’s side. Not that it would have mattered, because he had no idea who his character was when he accepted the part: the script made no mention of it at the time.

Here’s the trailer. Is this something you’d like to see in a theater near you?
