14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft announced a couple of months ago that it would release a Phone Companion app for Windows 10 that would allow phone users to sync their devices with PCs or tablets running Windows 10, thus giving them better control of their content and offering sync options with its own services.
The Phone Companion app was supposed to arrive in a preview build released to insiders before RTM, but it’s still nowhere to be seen now that we’re almost a month away from the public launch of Windows 10.
But fortunately, leaked screenshots with Windows 10 build 10154 reveal the Phone Companion app in all its glory, as it turns out that Microsoft finally unlocked it in this new release (the app was already part of build 10147, but all of its features were locked).
“The perfect pair”
The Phone Companion app is supposed to allow any user to connect their smartphone to a Windows 10 computer, no matter if the device is running Windows Phone, Android or iOS.
But obviously, Windows Phone comes with a big advantage and the configuration process is performed automatically. Microsoft calls this “the perfect pair” because everything on your Windows 10 device is already on Windows Phone or Windows 10 Mobile.
Android and iOS are “great matches” too, but additional configuration steps are necessary. “Set up your Android/iOS phone or tablet so you can sync the stuff you love from your PC automatically. We’ll walk you through it,” the application says.
Obviously, it won’t be too difficult for Android and iPhone users to set up their devices to work with Windows 10 PCs and the wizard that Microsoft developed should take care of everything, but Windows phones are clearly the best option for this app.
Phone Companion should become available in the next official release of Windows 10 preview, so expect everyone to be able to use it very soon.
