Have a look at Mozilla's "Firefox for iOS" prototypes

The first details about Firefox for iOS emerged in late 2014, with an official announcement from the company at the end of May.

Now on Mozilla's official InVision account, screenshots of what looks to be the foundation's Firefox for iOS early iPhone prototypes are available.

Mozilla always wanted a Firefox app for iOS

"We want to bring Firefox to every language, platform and device possible," said Mozilla's announcement back in May 2015. "Although we can’t bring the full Firefox experience and rendering engine to iOS due to the restrictions, we saw an opportunity with the latest improvements and tools in iOS 8 to begin development of a Firefox experience for iOS."

Indeed, this will not be easy, especially with Apple's tight grip on iOS, one of the most tethered operating systems around, but Firefox developers seem to have gone around most of the hurdles they expected to encounter and reached quite an advanced stage of development.

As you can see from the screenshots embedded below, the team plans to cover most of the browser's basic features, with support for multi-tab environments, tiled previews, a favicon grid, a bookmarks section, a way to explore the user's browser history, and a settings screen.

Users will have the option to sign in with their Firefox account, sync bookmarks, manage privacy settings, and tweak language options.

You can get Firefox for iOS right now via unofficial channels

If you like how the early Firefox for iOS screenshots look, we warn you, somewhere hidden in the README file there's a line that reads, "Likewise, the design and UX is still in flux. Don't get attached to them. They will change tomorrow!"

A very early version of the app is available on GitHub, it is written using a combination of Objective-C and Swift, and requires Xcode 6.4 or higher to build.
