Mozilla recently announced that its widely-used Firefox web browser just got a major update on Apple's iOS mobile operating system for iPhone and iPad devices.

As Mozilla's privacy and security focused Firefox Focus web browser hit the one million downloads mark on Google's Android mobile platform, the non-profit organization thought it would be a great idea to update the Firefox for iOS app with a bunch of long-anticipated new features and enhancements, including a new QR code reader, a new tab browsing experience, and a Night Mode option.

"Here at Firefox, we’re always looking for ways for users to get the most out of their web experience," said Mozilla. "Today, we’re rolling out some improvements that will set the stage for what’s to come in the Fall with Project Quantum. Together these new features help to enhance your mobile browsing experience and make a difference in how you use Firefox for iOS."

What's new in Firefox for iOS 8.0

Firefox for iOS 8.0 is here to revamp the tab browsing experience for users by showing highlights from previous web surfing sessions and recently visited websites, and implements a Night Mode option that automatically dims the brightness of your device's screen when you're in a dark room and you want to check your email.

On top of that, the latest Firefox for iOS release comes built-in with a QR code reader so you won't have to install a third-party app just to read QR codes, and it promises to show users feature recommendations and hints on how to improve their Firefox experience on iOS. Also, it can now automatically send a web page or tab to another mobile device or desktop PC where Firefox is installed and synced.

Lastly, Firefox for iOS is now capable of automatically sending web pages or tabs to another mobile device or desktop PC where Firefox is installed and synced with the same Mozilla account. iPhone and iPad users can find the Firefox for iOS 8.0.1 update on the App Store on iTunes if they want to get all these goodies, and remember to always keep your apps up to date.
