The Tor Browser Team is pleased to announce today the release and immediate availability of the final, production-ready version of the Tor Browser 7.0 open-source and cross-platform web browser for anonymous Web surfing.

Based on the latest Firefox 52 ESR (Extended Support Release) web browser from Mozilla, TOR Browser 7.0 is a major update that introduces the multiprocess mode (e10s) and content sandbox from Mozilla Firefox, as well as the ability for Linux and macOS users to further harden their Tor Browser setup via Unix Domain sockets when communicating with the Tor anonymous network.

"While we are still working on the sandboxing part for Windows (the e10s part is ready), both Linux and macOS have e10s and content sandboxing enabled by default in Tor Browser 7.0," reads today's announcement. "In addition to that, Linux and macOS users have the option to further harden their Tor Browser setup by using only Unix Domain sockets for communication with Tor."

The web browser now provides support for Tor 0.3 anonymous network

To further improve the tracking and fingerprinting capabilities of Tor Browser, the development team have managed to isolate cookies, Permissions API and view-source requests to the first party URL bar domain, as well as disable and/or patch various technologies like WebGL2, WebAudio, SpeechSynthesis, the MediaError.message property, Social, and Touch APIs.

Under the hood, the Tor Browser 7.0 release provides out-of-the-box support for the latest Tor 0.3.0.7 anonymous network, Torbutton 1.9.7.3, Tor Launcher 0.2.12.2, HTTPS-Everywhere 5.2.17, NoScript 5.0.5, and Go 1.8.3.
