Mozilla’s getting ready for the launch of Firefox 40

Mozilla announced that Firefox would be fully optimized for Windows 10, and the company has already made some tweaks to its browsers to prepare it for the debut of the new operating scheduled to take place on July 29.

Firefox 40 beta, which is now available for download for anyone running Windows, comes with a number of improvements specifically aimed at Windows 10, including UI changes that bring it in line with the latest visual tweaks introduced by Microsoft in its operating system.

Mozilla explains some of the changes it made to the UI, as many of them can be barely noticed unless you analyze every single corner of the main screen really closely:

“With Firefox 40 on Windows 10, we’ve matched the tabstrip and toolbar to the native Windows 10 theme. This includes refinements to our standard icon set, as well as much improved HiDPI (>1dppx) support. All of our first-tier icons now have 2× variants that are shipped with the browser, and the remaining icons buried in the depths of the browser should be fixed soon as well.”

Bigger search bar

Another change that can actually be spotted when running Firefox 40 Beta on Windows 10 is the bigger address bar and search box, as Mozilla wanted to make the browser easier to use for those who have eye problems.

“This is actually something that we’ve wanted to do for a couple years. Firefox has continually had a pretty small font-size for the URL bar, one which makes it hard for users with poor vision to read,” it says.

The company adds that, right now, the font used in this box has the same dimension as the ones used by competing browsers, so you might not notice any big difference when running it. And yet, this new version is still worth a try, so download Firefox 40 Beta for Windows 10 to see what it’s up to.
