Final Fantasy XIV might have been loaded with problems when it first launched but the A Realm Reborn version of the MMO is doing much better and it seems that Square Enix is interested in getting it to work on both the Xbox One from Microsoft and the coming NX platform from Nintendo.

Naoki Yoshida, who is both a producer and a director, is telling DualShockers that his company is evaluating the recently launched Windows 10 operating system in order to see how the cross-platform features are working.

It seems that negotiations with Microsoft are ongoing in relation to a port for Final Fantasy XIV.

It's more interesting to note that the team working on the MMO is also exploring the possibility of bringing it to the NX platform from Nintendo, which had not yet even been announced by the company.

Rumors about the coming hardware from the Japanese company have been appearing for a while, but an official reveal about it will probably take place at some point in 2016.

Square Enix has said that it is also considering the NX as a good platform for both Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest X.

Cross-platform play is important for Final Fantasy XIV

As with the Xbox One, the team in charge of the MMO will first need to know more about the cross-platform policies before it commits to the delivery of a port.

It will be interesting to see whether Square Enix manages to make Final Fantasy XIV one of the first titles in its genre that will be playable across all the big gaming platforms.

Rumors have suggested that the NX device will be revealed early next year and that Nintendo has plans to start manufacturing it during the summer, planning to offer it to gamers before Christmas of 2016.

Square Enix is at the moment also working on a single-player-focused Final Fantasy XV, which is confirmed as coming to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

The publisher is also talking about a variety of remakes of older titles in the series, designed to offer the classic experience of the JRPG series to a new generation of players.
