During the Distance Worlds event which is taking place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Arnie Roth, who is known for his work on the music of the Final Fantasy series, has been talking about a remake for Final Fantasy XII which is at the moment in development.

The musician has said that the coming new version of the game will be a High Definition one, but he has not offered any more details about it.

Fan site Finalfantasy.net has managed to even get footage of the statements, but it's unclear whether the team at publisher Square Enix plans to now make an official announcement or whether Roth was sharing information that he should have kept mum about.

Both Arnie Roth and Hitoshi Sakimoto then took part in a meet and greet session, and apparently, they said they were not able to expand on any information about a remake for Final Fantasy XII.

Gamescom, the event which is taking place in Cologne, Germany during the coming week, would represent a good moment for Square Enix to make an official announcement about such a project and to offer a teaser trailer for it.

Final Fantasy XII is nine years old

The Japanese role-playing title was first introduced in early 2006 on the PlayStation 2, and it will be interesting to see whether the rumored remake remains linked to the Sony home consoles or will also appear on other devices.

More than 5 million copies have been sold, and Revenant Wings offered a continuation of the core narrative that was delivered on the Nintendo 3DS one year later.

Final Fantasy XII takes place in the world of Ivalice and gamers will experience the story of Vaan, who can be joined by six other characters that can be controlled during combat.

The story has been praised by gamers as showing off some of the classic themes associated with the series.

When it comes to gameplay, Final Fantasy XII uses the Active Dimension Battle and allows gamers to see enemies on the map, with a choice to engage or to avoid them.

At the moment, Square Enix is working on the fifteenth core installment in the Final Fantasy series, which is expected to arrive on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, probably in late 2016.
