The recently announced remake for Final Fantasy VII is going to introduce a few "dramatic changes" to the combat, according to developer Square Enix, and also seeks to incorporate some of the elements seen in the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children animated movie that launched quite some time ago.

Square Enix's Final Fantasy saga has been around for many years, and while recent installments haven't exactly dazzled the legions of fans all around the world, the Japanese company still has plenty of confidence.

After many years filled with pleas from fans, Square Enix confirmed at E3 2015 last month that it would remaster the iconic Final Fantasy VII installment. Unfortunately for those same fans, no other details were offered at that time.

Final Fantasy VII's remake will feature tweaked combat

Fortunately, Game Director Tetsuya Nomura confirms to GamesRadar a few precious tidbits of information, referencing first some desired gameplay changes that should have an impact on the general combat.

According to Nomura, a series of "dramatic changes" will be made to the fighting system, but fans shouldn't worry about turning the JRPG into a completely different experience.

"Of course, that being said we want to clarify: We’re not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that. We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it’s still recognizable," Nomura explains.

Advent Children is also an inspiration for Square Enix

What's more, the Final Fantasy VII remake is also going to draw a bit of inspiration from the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children animated movie. Nomura, who worked on that project, explains that visual references will be employed but fans shouldn't expect 3D models or anything like that, as Advent Children used a different technology and it's been almost 10 years since it came out.

Unfortunately, not much else was confirmed, so Final Fantasy fans will have to keep on waiting for Square Enix to share their plans. It's possible that the Japanese company will make a few more statements at the Tokyo Games Show 2015 event in September.
