The FFmpeg developers have revealed earlier today, February 15, 2016, the massive FFmpeg 3.0 release of the popular and powerful open-source multimedia framework for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows operating systems.

While there's still no official announcement on the project's website, we have managed to get our hands on the internal changelog (available in the source archive), so we can now tell you what's new in FFMpeg 3.0.

The new features are quite impressive, and FFmpeg 3.0 includes support for decoding and encoding Common Encryption (CENC) MP4 files, support for decoding DXV streams, an ADPCM PSX decoder, and support for decoding Screenpresso SPV1 streams.

Other awesome new features include a wve demuxer, an ADPCM AICA decoder, an SDX2 DPCM decoder, XMA1 and XMA2 decoder, a Cineform HD decoder, an IVR demuxer, a chromaprint fingerprinting muxer, VAAPI VP9 hwaccel, and an nnedi deinterlacer.

The native AAC encoder has received some great improvements, the ffplay dynamic volume control has been implemented, along with zero-copy Intel QSV transcoding, and there's now support for encoding 16-bit RLE SGI images.

A bunch of new filters have been added

A bunch of filters have been added in this new major release, among which we can mention extrastereo filter, rubberband filter, stereotools filter, maskedmerge filter, stereowiden filter, ocr filter, chromakey filter, tremolo filter, and alimiter filter.

Moreover, the displace, selectivecolor, zscale, shuffleframes, vibrato, realtime, compensationdelay, acompressor, apulsator, sidechaingate audio, spectrumsynth, ahistogram, convolution, afftfilt, swaprect, and showspectrumpic filter are also present.

FFmpeg 3.0 includes many other new features, and it would be impractical for us to list them all here, so we strongly recommend that you take a look at the attached changelog below if you're curious to know what else is new.

Download the FFmpeg 3.0 sources right now via Softpedia for GNU/Linux operating systems. However, bear in mind that it is recommended that you update the software from the default repositories of your operating system as soon as they're available, of course.
