As weird as it may sound, this is actually good news

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 cumulative update KB4016240 to systems running the Creators Update a few hours ago, and by the looks of things, only a few users are actually experiencing issues with it.

As early Windows 10 adopters probably know, cumulative updates have been pretty troublesome, causing either installation issues or bugs that impacted systems after they deployed successfully, including performance errors, app crashes, and BSODs.

As a result, many IT admins and users alike are treating every new cumulative update with extra caution, though this time it looks like Microsoft has finally managed to get almost everything right.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4016240 issues are a rare thing 10 hours after it was first published on Windows Update, and the number of users reporting installation problems is very small.

For example, a couple of Windows 10 customers say the update gets stuck at 0 percent when the downloading process starts, while a few others claim it gets a long time to install.

“Installing fine here”

On the other hand, the number of people claiming that KB4016240 installs correctly is substantially bigger and, what’s even more important, this cumulative update fixes some of the biggest problems reported in Windows 10 Creators Update since launch.

Starting with this cumulative update, Windows 10 users can once again disable the lock screen from the Group Policy on systems running the Pro version, while a bug causing the Start menu to be slow when UWP apps were running maximized behind it is no longer there.

For those who are hitting errors during the download or the install, the easiest way to get around them is to manually download cumulative update KB4016240, as this is a workaround that avoided several problems in the past as well.

On the good side, it looks like slowly but surely Microsoft is fixing the majority of bugs experienced with cumulative updates, so very soon these patches should hopefully install correctly for everyone on Windows 10.
