Red Hat and the Fedora Project were pleased to announce the general availability of the Fedora 27 Linux operating system, the latest stable release of the free OS for desktops and servers.

Fedora Linux is Red Hat's free alternative to the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, which recently gained ARM server support, and it's one of the most used GNU/Linux distributions out there besides Ubuntu, of course.

With the release of Fedora 27, the GNU/Linux distro received some of the latest Open Source technologies and software applications, starting with the GNOME 3.26 desktop environment and the Linux 4.13 kernel, and continuing with the LibreOffice 5.4 office suite.

"Building and supporting the next generation of applications remains a critical focus for the Fedora community, showcased in Fedora 27 by our continued support and refinement of System Containers and containerized services like Kubernetes and flannel," said Matthew Miller, Fedora Project Leader.

Fedora 27 Workstation and Fedora 27 Atomic Host are out now

Fedora 27 Linux comes with Fedora 27 Workstation and Fedora 27 Atomic Host, as well as all of the official Fedora Spins, including Fedora 27 KDE, Fedora 27 Xfce, Fedora 27 LXQt, Fedora 27 MATE-Compiz, Fedora 27 Cinnamon, Fedora 27 LXDE, and Fedora 27 SoaS.

While the Fedora Spins come with up-to-date versions of the desktop environments they're powered by, Fedora 27 Workstation uses the latest GNOME 3.26 desktop which offers new features like revamped Settings, color emoji support, and the ability for the system search to display more results at once.

Fedora 27 also comes with the latest version of the Fedora Media Writer utility, which lets users create bootable SD cards with Fedora Linux that they can use for running the operating system on various ARM devices like the Raspberry Pi. It also supports Windows 7 and improves screenshot handling.

You can download Fedora 27 Workstation and Fedora 27 Atomic Host, as well as Fedora 27 Spins right now if you want to install the OS on your computer(s) or upgrade from a previous Fedora release. In the coming weeks, the Fedora 27 Server edition will also be available to download, but you can grab the beta today.
