Red Hat's John Terrill is informing us about the availability of the Beta version of the upcoming Fedora 26 Linux operating system, which comes in three distinct flavors, Fedora 26 Workstation, Fedora 26 Server, and Fedora 26 Atomic Host.

Each edition of the upcoming Fedora 26 Linux operating system is built from a common set of base packages, which means that they're shipping with the Linux kernel 4.11, GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 7, Go 1.8, Ruby 2.4, and Python 3.6 open-source technologies.

DNF 2.0 is now the default package management system offering backwards compatibility with Yum, and Fedora 26 Beta updates the Anaconda installer program with a brand new storage configuration screen that enables support for "bottom-up" configurations from partitions and devices.

Fedora Media Writer, the tool that lets users write Fedora Linux ISO images on SD cards to boot the operating system on ARM-based devices and single-board computers like Raspberry Pi, has also been updated in this Beta release, which comes with many small enhancements and bug fixes.

Fedora 26 Workstation Beta uses GNOME 3.24 as default desktop

Each of three editions shipped with the Fedora 26 Beta release include their own features. For example, users will be happy to learn that Fedora 26 Workstation Beta uses GNOME 3.24 as default desktop environment and comes with up-to-date components, such as the LibreOffice 5.3 office suite.

On the other hand, Fedora 26 Server Beta includes FreeIPA 4.5 for better management of containers, as well as SSSD file caching capabilities for speeding up the resolution of group and user queries, and Fedora 26 Atomic Host Beta ships with containerized Kubernetes, and latest rpm-ostree, Docker, Cockpit, and Atomic versions.

Fedora 26 Atomic Host Beta also comes with System Containers, which provides a new way of installing system infrastructure software. You can download Fedora 26 Beta right now from our website if you want to test drive the operating system on your computer, but we don't recommend using it in production environments.
