The new game uses a Skyrim approach, apparently

Fallout 4 has just received some more details about its experience and level progression system. Apparently, this time around, each perk that players can unlock will have its own XP level, meaning that there's a total of about 275 separate levels in the new role-playing game.

Fallout 4 was presented to the world back in early June, and developer Bethesda has since shared plenty of different videos, screenshots, and information about its post-apocalyptic RPG and how its mechanics blend old and new features into an attractive package.

However, very little has been said about the leveling system, besides the fact that there is no concrete cap on what levels players can reach during the actual game.

Each perk comes with its own level path

Now, OXM, via Gamespresso, brings a new statement from one of Bethesda's employees concerning the actual leveling system in Fallout 4.

Just like previous games, every level up brings one point that players can spend on unlocking a perk. However, this time around, each perk also has its own XP level. As such, if players really want to push everything to its maximum, there will be 275 levels to unlock in Fallout 4.

"You’ll still level up via XP, and each level increase will still give you a point to spend on a perk, but now those perks have varying XP levels of their own. It’s perk-ception, essentially, and means that, should you theoretically play long enough to max out every tier of every single one - gaining untold buffs and no doubt all kinds of horrendous real-world illnesses in the process - you’ll top off with a total of 275," the statement reads.

It's unclear just how the perk levels will increase, although it may be similar to what Bethesda's previous title, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, did. In that RPG, as you used a perk you also gained experience, so Fallout 4 might bring back that system.

As of yet, no other concrete details are known, but Bethesda should present more information as we get closer to the launch of Fallout 4 on November 10, worldwide, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
